Paal Grant established his landscape design practice over 20 years ago, bringing a background in fine arts and sculpture that continues to shape the way he approaches every project. As a former Head of Sculpture at Wesley College in Melbourne, his early work focused on form, structure, and spatial experience, principles that now sit at the core of his landscape design.
He remains closely involved in every project, personally leading the design and guiding each build through to completion. The focus is simple. Strong, resolved design that creates outdoor spaces people can live in, not just look at. Gardens that hold their structure, feel considered, and continue to perform over time.
Paal draws inspiration from the natural environment, but it’s the translation of that into built form that defines his work. Material selection, levels, planting, and layout are all treated as part of a single system, creating landscapes that feel connected, functional, and enduring.
Under his direction, the studio has achieved national and international recognition, including winning gardens on The Block, Gold Medals at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, and awards at the Gardening World Cup in Japan. These projects reflect a consistent approach. Clear thinking, strong execution, and design that holds up beyond the moment.
Outside of work, Paal brings the same energy and discipline into training, spending time running, weight training, and in the studio at Hot Temple. He also enjoys designing and building custom timber furniture, exploring ideas through 3D design, and spending time with his three boys and his Mini Foxie, Louie
Carmen Grant has been styling landscapes for over a decade, bringing a design-led approach that completes the overall vision of each project. With a background in interiors and colour consulting, she focuses on how a space feels to live in, layering furniture, textiles, and objects to create outdoor environments that are both functional and inviting.
Her work sits at the intersection of structure and softness, where the built landscape is enhanced through thoughtful styling. Every selection is considered in context, from furniture placement through to material tone and texture, ensuring the final space feels resolved and cohesive.
Carmen places strong value on supporting local makers and sourcing pieces that bring authenticity and character to each project. The result is a landscape that doesn’t just look complete, but feels lived in and connected to the people using it.
Alongside her role in styling, Carmen also manages the brand’s marketing and social presence, shaping how projects are shared and experienced beyond the site. Outside of work, she balances family life with three boys, a love for movement and mindfulness, and the occasional well-earned glass of pinot gris.
Damon Prendergast leads construction across a wide range of projects, from detailed residential gardens through to large-scale acreage builds. With extensive hands-on experience, he brings a steady, practical approach to delivering landscapes that are built properly and perform over time.
He works closely with the design team to ensure every detail translates accurately on site, managing the day-to-day realities of construction while maintaining the intent of the design. His calm, methodical approach allows projects to progress smoothly, even when complexity arises.
Damon has a strong appreciation for how landscapes transform a space, and takes pride in seeing each project come together through careful execution and attention to detail. Whether operating machinery or coordinating the build, he remains focused on delivering a clean, resolved outcome.
Outside of work, Damon brings the same discipline to his training, competing in Ultimate Frisbee at both national and international levels. He has represented Australia at the World Ultimate Club Championships, balancing high performance sport with the physical demands of construction.
We’ve refined our approach over years of designing and building across Ballarat, Daylesford and regional Victoria. It’s structured enough to give certainty, but flexible enough to respond to your site, your architecture and how you actually live.
Here’s how it works.
We walk the property with you. Measure levels. Study drainage. Talk through how you actually want to use the space. Your initial consultation fees is credited to your design package when you proceed.
You’ll see your future garden in detail. Materials. Structure. Planting rhythm.
We can adjust proportions, materials and planting selections during guided revisions and refinements.
Build with our team or take the completed documentation to your preferred landscaper. If we build it, an itemised quote is prepared for your design, in line with the Landscaping Victoria 'Master Landscapers' cost guide.
We can manage quoting, staging and delivery.
Furniture placement, soft furnishing elements, sculptural garden art and final adjustments to your planting layout.
